Hampden Medical Center, Penn State Health

Hampden, PA

Looking to expand their market share in the region, Penn State Health purchased a 44-acre site in Hampden, Pennsylvania to build a new greenfield hospital. PurePM provided project management and owner’s representation services for the design and construction of the new 330,000 SF, 108-bed hospital. The new hospital has a full complement of services and departments including standard medical and surgical units, intensive care units, intermediate care, women’s services, surgery, catheterization lab, diagnostic imaging, emergency department, clinical laboratory, pharmacy, and endoscopy. Sustainability initiatives were woven throughout the design of the new hospital.

Penn State Health’s goal of speed to market was accomplished through a fast-tracked schedule; construction began prior to final design completion. In addition, the team implemented an off-site prefabrication strategy that saved time and reduced costs, and improved quality control, as components were manufactured in a factory-like setting. PurePM’s management of the aggressive 24-month schedule maintained the original budget expectations without any sacrifice to workmanship or quality.
