Research Facility Renovation, Center for Discovery & Innovation, Hackensack Meridian Health

As part of their continued expansion, Hackensack Meridian acquired a portion of the Old Roche Pharmaceuticals site in Nutley, New Jersey. The site was well-suited for their goals of expanding research and growing their newly formed School of Medicine. The existing labs and Animal Research facility on site were renovated to bring the buildings up to current standards and to provide state of the art research facilities that met the research program requirements.

At 45,000 GSF of renovated space, the core facilities include labs, high-end imaging, mass spectrometry, gene editing, cell sorting, flow cytometry, tissue banks and biocontainment labs, including two BSL-3 Labs. The facility also includes office space, an auditorium, a board room and a video conferencing center, both of which serve as venues for speakers and events.

The Animal Research Facility is a 6-story, 39,000 GSF building connected to the main facility by a skybridge. The space includes a vivarium, a large cage preparation area, autoclaving space, multiple holding rooms, six procedure rooms, two surgical suites, and an X-ray irradiator. The Research Animal Facility also features an ABSL-3 facility.
