Project imagine - Tower A

Camden, NJ

Tower A is a transformative healthcare project being developed by Cooper Norcross Health in Camden, New Jersey. Located at the prominent intersection of Haddon Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the 330,000-square-foot facility will be fully fit out and serve as both a Regional Medical Command Center and a comprehensive care site. This ten-story tower, complete with a basement and a mechanical penthouse, represents a major investment in modernizing healthcare delivery for the community.

The programmatic layout of Tower A has been carefully planned to support a range of critical healthcare services. The basement level will house essential mechanical and support services, including EVS maintenance. The first floor will serve as a central hub for education and operations, featuring a conference center, a medical command center, a learner hub, on-call rooms, and a library. Surgical services will be concentrated on the second floor, which includes operating rooms, Pre-op and PACU areas, and a bridge connection to the adjacent MDA facility. The third floor will support women’s health services with antepartum care, labor and delivery rooms, and C-section suites.

The fourth floor will be dedicated to neonatal intensive care, while the fifth floor will accommodate postpartum services and a medical intermediate unit. Floors six through ten are designed for medical-surgical use with acuity-adaptable patient rooms—each floor containing 25 private beds. All patient rooms throughout the facility will be fully integrated with advanced patient experience technology, with ongoing IT coordination ensuring seamless implementation.

Supporting infrastructure includes the vertical expansion of the Central Utility Plant (CUP) on nearby Benson Street and the inclusion of a new mechanical penthouse to house vital systems. The project will also feature a bridge structure to enhance connectivity across the campus.

While the project team is navigated challenges such as site-related soil contamination and finalization of construction agreements, early sitework, enabling activities, and core and shell preparations were underway. The construction schedule was incorporated into the current design development phase, allowing for progress while contract negotiations continued. Once complete, Tower A will significantly enhance regional healthcare capacity, provide critical infrastructure for emergency response, and create a modern, patient-centered environment that supports healing and innovation.
