Women and Families Hospital, Temple University Health System

Philadelphia, PA

The Temple University Health System (TUH) Women & Families Hospital project involved the renovation, licensing, and activation of a previously dormant hospital facility, funded through the Pennsylvania Department of General Services (DGS). The revitalized hospital features private rooms for mothers and babies, 12 labor & delivery and high-risk antepartum beds, 32 postpartum beds, 8 ICU beds, a triage and stabilization area, and an expanded neonatal unit. The facility also includes more than 75 exam rooms, as well as diagnostic and imaging services such as radiology, mammography, MRI, and CT.

PurePM provided full project management, staff augmentation, and move management services for the project. In the absence of a Construction Manager and with only a general trades contractor, PurePM augmented Construction Management services by overseeing prime contractors, coordinating open items, and delegating work to trades to achieve timely project completion. Responsibilities included comprehensive change management, detailed pay application reviews, and coordination of design changes between the design team and multiple prime contractors. PurePM also managed project schedule risks to meet TUH’s first-patient milestone, coordinated construction activities around the activation of adjacent areas, led L&I and DOH survey efforts, and facilitated pay application and change order reviews for TUH’s final approval.

PurePM further supported DGS funding compliance by preparing and bundling monthly reports, daily field reports, and certified payrolls for submission to TUH. Beyond construction, our scope extended to hospital activation and move management services encompassing approximately 250,000 SF, from the basement through the fourth floor.

The hospital welcomed its first patient in Q3 2025, providing a safe, modern, and compassionate environment for women and families. Focused on comprehensive maternal and women’s health services, the facility enhances TUH’s ability to deliver coordinated pre- and post-natal care and education. Building upon TUH’s delivery of more than 2,200 babies in 2020, the Women & Families Hospital strengthens the health system’s mission to reduce maternal mortality and expand equitable access to quality healthcare for all women and families, regardless of socioeconomic status.
